VIDEO: A weekend of Gorilla Riot at The Globe, Glossop.
15 & 16 December 2023
Friday 15 & Saturday 16 December saw two gigs in two days by Gorilla Riot at The Globe, Glossop.
High Peak TV first saw Gorilla Riot at GlossFest earlier this year and have kept in touch with their bass player Deggy, who is also known for his artwork, including the mural of Vivienne Westwood in Glossop town Centre.
On Friday they played a stripped back version of their usual show using acoustic guitars and sitting down, with excellent support from Samuel Charles Lees.
Saturday started with some refreshingly brutal heavy metal from Sour Tusk who made sure any cobwebs were thoroughly blown away before Gorilla Riot took the stage for a full electric rock and roll show.
High Peak TV managed to grab a short interview with Gorilla Riot before Saturday's show in which we chatted briefly about their long awaited second album, Salvation, and the band's plans for 2024.
Enjoy this short video, which has subtitles for your convenience.

VIDEO: The Dirt Road Band at The Commercial Inn, Glossop
14 October 2023
The Dirt Road Band at The Commercial Inn, Glossop, invited by Demento66.
The band's line-up are usually Steve Walwyn on guitar and vocal (Dr Feelgood, The DTs), Ted Duggan on drums (Badfinger, The Beat) and Horace Panter on bass (The Specials ) but he was in L.A. so in his place was Norman Watt-Roy (The Blockheads, Wilko Johnson, Wilko).
During the set they were joined onstage by guest singer Gary Miller.
High Peak TV try to interfere as
little as possible when filming as we don't want to affect the feel of the event we're recording. We're like nature documentary filmmakers who keep filming the baby zebra while a lion silently creeps up behind it - we'd like to think if one of the band had fallen over we would just have kept recording and let nature decide the outcome for better or worse - and it was in this spirit of staying out of the way that we didn't manage to interview the band before they had to leave, having met nearly everyone who had attended the sell-out show.
VIDEO: Blackballed at The Commercial Inn, Glossop

America.
The show attracted a good crowd, many of whom travelled from out of town to the venue on Manor Park Road, and there was a great atmosphere throughout.
High Peak TV had a quick chat with the band after the gig to ask them what they thought of the venue.

VIDEO: Baton Of Hope Suicide Prevention Day in Norfolk Square, Glossop
21 September 2023

The Baton of Hope is fast becoming the UK’s largest ever suicide prevention initiative, which takes on serious and highly-charged subject of suicide, while at the same time promoting the ocean of hope and optimism at the heart of the mission. Suicide claims around 115 lives a year in Derbyshire alone and affects thousands more lives. It is the largest cause of death among males under fifty years old.
The event was attended by representatives from local and national mental health & suicide prevention initiatives, as well as representatives from statutory and voluntary emergency services available in Glossop in the High Peak. We chatted with Andrew & Angela, Dr Lesley Surman (advocate for patient and public voice and involvement), Wendy Hutchinson from the Derbyshire County Council mental health & suicide prevention team and Robert Largan (Member of Parliament for the High Peak).

Also in attendance were Councillor Peter Inman, Mayor of the High Peak, and The Georgia Bird Foundation Youth Choir, who sang a number of meaningful songs, including the Baton of Hope Anthem, an inspirational song, which they have had professionally recorded and is available to download from Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Spotify with the proceeds going towards suicide prevention charities.
Everybody there had a message of suicide prevention in Glossop and the High Peak, and they urge the people of Glossop to take the Zero Suicide Alliance online training, which only takes twenty minutes and can be accessed here: https://www.zerosuicidealliance.com/suicide-awareness...
There was also an unexpected flash mob by Fab Choir, but sadly unexpected camera issues left us with no footage of this.
Despite the camera problem, High Peak TV had a great day out - we learned of the importance of taking the Zero Suicide Alliance online training, and we are proud to help spread the important message that suicide is never inevitable, it is preventable, and help is available in our community.
Please share this video, it genuinely could save a life, and if you are affected by anything in this video and want to talk to somebody, help is available from the following links:

featured local venues (The Globe, Crystal Ballroom, Partington Players Theatre and, of course Demento66 & The Commercial) will be updated on a weekly basis, however there are many other great venues and gigs in Glossop, so anyone putting on a live show in the town will be able to add the event to the site themselves.

VIDEO: Emergency Services Day
08 September 2023

Today we spotted not one, but two mayors (a mayor and an ex-mayor) in Norfolk Square in Glossop.
Resisting his initial urge to write a witty but pointless poem about the mayor and his heir over there on the square, our reporter dropped everything, grabbed his trusty old phone and raced towards the action.
Councillor Peter Inman, Mayor of the High Peak, was there to fly the Red Ensign from the flagpole on Norfolk Square in commemoration
of Merchant Navy Day. The Red Ensign or "Red Duster" is the civil ensign of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is the flag flown by British merchant or passenger ships since 1707.

We had decided to take Sweep, the High Peak TV, to the park for a wander - in spite of the unsettled weather, whereupon we were greeted by a live dance show in Manor Park. The performers were
from Centre Stage Academy of Dance & Fitness in Hadfield and they had been there performing throughout the two days of Glossop Carnival.

Deggy is a local artist who wanted to celebrate his 30th birthday by holding his debut solo art exhibition in his home town. I first became aware of him when he painted a mural of Vivienne Westwood in Glossop shortly before she passed away last December.
It was great to see that so many different and interesting people had travelled to our town to visit and enjoy the exhibition.
I decided to grab a word with Deggy to ask how he was feeling so with my trusty old phone I filmed this video.
Apologies for the sound - the traffic and dodgy phone microphone - I have made the film black & white and added subtitles to compensate.
